Nutrition and Food Services

Gifford Medical Center has been offering food service since 1931, when the kitchen was first

built. It featured an underground root cellar to store hospital-grown vegetables. Since, food

service at Gifford has changed and grown dramatically, but in way it has also found its roots.

In 2005, Gifford’s kitchen was rebuilt and enlarged to allow for the preparation of fresh foods made

by a team of trained chefs. The following year, Gifford added locally grown produce to its salad bar and menu offerings. And in early 2007, the hospital converted to hotel-style room service to feed its inpatients. The room service feature includes seven menus specific to patients’ dietary needs. Also in 2007, nursing home residents are served from a hot buffet line located in the newly decorated dining area.

Good nutrition through healthy foods is a focus at Gifford. Dietary planning by registered dietitians and meal preparation by the hospital’s team of chefs combines to meet all normal and special nutritional needs of patients. In addition, our registered dietitians offer outpatient nutrition counseling, which is covered by most insurance providers.

Gifford’s food service is also not just for patients and hospital visitors. Gifford has a Conference Center, at which catering is available. Click on the links below to learn more about meeting spaces and catering options at Gifford.
